Artist Statement: Anna Brazier.
Living is moving; how we move embodies our pasts and creates our futures. My practice in performance, drawing, and mixed media has these ideas at its heart.
Making room for improvisation is central, and ideas emerge from paying attention through moving, through looking, listening and through mark making. I am drawn to methods and materials that support these processes. I like working with ink and wax and hand made paper. I like making work that is creased ripped or folded, or that is hung up and mobile. I like to play with sculptural elements and parts that might move. I also like to collaborate and am currently working with a colleague on a project that takes us back and for between our Alexander Technique and Drawing practices.
Currently my focus is on The Severn Crossing which is fundamental part of any trip to England from Wales. As a child we went by ferry ( if it was running) then by the ‘New Bridge’ built in 1966. I have been collecting writing, maps, and images, and conversations, for a long time and have yet to work out quite how to bring it together into a piece of work. Now I have a new studio space and I’m loving playing with ink and hand made paper so we will see ………….
Background
I worked in the NHS as a Clinical Psychologist/Systemic Psychotherapist before training as an Alexander Technique Teacher and completing my MFA with distinction at Cardiff Metropolitan in 2016. I now combine an arts practice with my Alexander work. I am also a member of Good News from the Future a Cardiff based physical theatre group. https://goodnewsfromthefuture.org.uk.
